Head Forming & Fabrication of Equally Spaced Flue Holes

Formed Flues to be trimmed   Trimmed flues   Completed 318 dia F&D with 36 Flues

A customer came to Conrex Steel looking for a way to reduce the number of special fittings/forgings. We developed a technique to form 36 equally spaced flue holes in the knuckle area around a 318" O.D. head made of 304H stainless steel. The head was flanged and dished and supplied as nine 40-deg segments and a dollar cap. Each segment was additionally formed with four flue holes, 11.375" ID, 1" OCR, and total flue length of 2". The flue holes were trimmed, bevelled, and tapered per customer's specification. Segments were also trimmed and bevelled and trial fitted and the dollar cap was trimmed to fit the head opening and fitted. We assembled the head, verified it dimensionally, disassembled it, and delivered it to the customer.
